SYSTEMONIC UNVEILS 802.11 A+B WIRELESS LAN SOLUTION AT NETWORLD+INTEROP
TOKYO
Systemonic's Detect and Connect dual-band demo shows
seamless W-LAN roaming
San Jose, CA and Dresden, Germany (July 16, 2002)
- Systemonic, a leading developer of complete silicon system solutions
for the global wireless communications market, demonstrated its
Tondelayo dual-band, 802.11a+b Wireless LAN silicon solution
to their tier one OEM customers and the Japanese press July 3-5
at NetWorld+Interop 2002 in Tokyo, Japan.
At the event, Systemonic demonstrated its dual-band,
wireless LAN solution for the Enterprise, SOHO and Audio / Visual
LAN markets. The setup featured a Systemonic Tondelayo reference
design communicating with standard 802.11a (5 GHz) and 802.11b (2.4
GHz) access points (AP) that were connected to video servers. The
Tondelayo reference design showed compatibility with the high-performance
802.11a and legacy 802.11b wireless infrastructure by connecting
to these remote servers and downloading multimedia files over both
wireless bands.
The dual-mode PCI card reference design incorporates
Systemonic's flexible, programmable OnDSP baseband platform
and the world-class RF technology, Systemonic RFlex. This
technology provides dual-band operation of 802.11a and 802.11b wireless
functionality in a single device. By using a programmable DSP, Systemonic's
solution has the distinct advantage of being able to support current
standards and emerging standards via software and firmware updates.
This enables Systemonic's tier one ODM/OEMs to bring products to
market that support multiple standards in a shorter period of time
at a lower cost than implementing separate designs.
"The wireless communications market continues
to expand even with the growing number of approved and proposed
standards. Additionally, some customers are asking for proprietary
capabilities to further differentiate their products. The only cost-effective
and timely way to meet these demands is to use a programmable platform
to quickly bring new solutions to market." said Ruediger Stroh,
CEO of Systemonic.
The Tondelayo reference design includes Microsoft
Windows and Linux drivers and is compatible with standard applications
such as Internet browsing and file sharing. CardBus and PCI form
factors were also displayed at the Wi-Fi Zone.
