SYSTEMONIC TECHNOLOGY ENABLES MULTI-BAND AND MULTI-PROTOCOL DATA TRANSMISSION FOR FLEXIBLE WIRELESS COMMUNICATION

Initial Solutions will be First to Transparently Support Both 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz Standards for Wireless Communication

San Jose, CA and Dresden, Germany (February 25, 2002) - Systemonic, an emerging leader providing complete communications solutions in silicon, today announced the expansion of its technology base to transparently support multiple standards across multiple bands for wireless communication. Systemonic Technology is based on OnDSP™, a platform for the rapid generation of highly optimized yet flexible, DSP-based solutions, and Systemonic RFlex™, an RF technology providing superior receiver sensitivity and frequency selectivity over a broad range of operating frequencies. This technology will allow Systemonic to produce a series of multi-protocol, multi-band data communications solutions for high-growth markets this calendar year. The first implementation is 802.11a+b, which is scheduled to be sampled early in the second quarter and commercially available early in the third quarter.

"This is a multi-standard world and the question of which standard will become dominant is still open. Therefore we are focused on providing flexible solutions that transparently support multiple existing, evolving and emerging standards across multiple bands," comments Ruediger Stroh, President and CEO of Systemonic. "The race is on and with this technology we start from the pole position."

The demand for mobility with wireless connectivity is dramatically increasing. To service this need there are a growing number of 2.4 GHz networks operating with the 802.11b standard. Soon, incrementally faster networks, many at 5 GHz, offering 54 Mbps will be installed, and many will be overlaid on existing 2.4 GHz networks. Whether in a location with multiple protocol availability, or moving from one network environment to another, a multi-protocol, multi-mode solution is needed to allow the user to connect seamlessly. The growing market need for the swift movement of all data types, data, voice and video, will favor companies offering higher transmission rates while providing support for the current installed base of users.

"IDC's analysis indicates the wireless LAN market is demanding higher bandwidth, greater network capacity and seamless support for legacy systems," says Jason Smolek, Research Analyst for Enterprise Networks and IP VPNs at IDC, the leading global provider of technology forecasts, insights, and advice. "These demands will be best served by multi-band, multi-protocol solutions that can quickly support the newest high-speed standards."

Wireless LANs now offer performance and capacity that complement their wired counterparts. This evolution of the wireless market provides an opportunity for astonishing revenue growth for communications companies. With the large number of new products featuring wireless functionality, the Wireless LAN market's growth will continue to accelerate not only in the enterprise but in the home as well. This growth requires a unique type of solution capable of processing the multiple wireless standards and interfacing to the wired world.

OnDSP provides such a platform for the development of highly optimized, yet flexible digital solutions. With this platform, application specific DSPs, capable of processing multiple protocols can be quickly generated. By anticipating the future needs of end-users, support for next-generation protocols can be accommodated and subsequently downloaded when they are approved.

Systemonic RFlex provides the company with a complementary platform for the rapid development of high-performance, low-power, multi-band radios. While the initial RF systems provide maximum data rate transmission at maximum range for the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz bands, future solutions will deliver optimized performance for a very broad range of wireless products operating from 800 MHz to over 6 GHz.

Bruce Myers, General Manager of Systemonic's Marlborough, MA office and Director of RF Engineering said, "our low risk approach to the development of this chipset provides a solid, cost effective platform for our customers to quickly launch end-user products that can be field upgradeable."

About Systemonic
Systemonic, founded in 1999, is a wireless communications platform provider delivering complete Silicon System Solutions that power wireless data, video and voice networks across standards, across the world. Its flexible, re-configurable platform, combined with world-class RF technology acquired in November 2001 from Raytheon Company, allows customers to bring wireless communications products that support multiple standards to market faster and with industry-leading performance. November 2000, Systemonic completed second round funding of USD 30 million from an investment consortium led by Atlas Venture and APAX Europe IV, including, Krone mt, Lehman Bros. and Raytheon Commercial Ventures Inc.
